Aim of research

1 - A numerical model of radiative exchanges

2 - Use of satellite imagery for urban fabrics

Activities during the year

The activities of the CERMA in 1998 concern the following points.

1- A numerical model of radiative exchanges has been developped for urban canopy. It’s based on ray-tracing methods. In this research we attempt to define the influence of formal features of urban spaces on radiative exchanges and surface temperatures

2 - Considerable efforts has been spent to organise a small french network on satellite imagery for the urban atmosphere and the urban canopy. This is still not operational

Aim for the coming year

Definition of a new parameterisation for the canopy layer model, concerning the radiative and heat budgets within the canopy, with the specially developed model SOLENE of radiative and heat transfers taking into account multiple reflections, mutual shadowing, and anthropogenic heat sources

Computation of solar radiative for heat transferts to obtain surface temperature of walls and grounds of the so called « rue de Strasbourg » in Nantes during the measurement periods’. Coupling of radiative heat budget with convective thermal datas (URBCAP-Nantes )

Organisation of a french domestic meeting on urban micro-climatology for doctoral students in september 1999 in Nantes.

Participation to the URBCAP project Marseilles 2000. Preparation of geographic and urban morphological data (regional-scale experimental campaign of the French program ESCOMPTE).

Construction of an urban form typology linked to the thermal environment uban spaces. Study of many configurations in order to extract more knowledge about thermal conditions and urban forms.
